Looking to be an S2K owner
Hi
I just joined the forum as I've decided after 15 years of wanting one, that now is the time to finally get an s2000. I have had plenty of chances to own one in the past and chose other cars for various reasons, but now that they are getting a bit older and cheaper (and so am I) I am thinking to get one as a second car / track toy. I can't come up with any excuses not to as a toy.
I'm sure it's is a hotly debated topic, but I am trying to decide if an AP1 or a 04-05 AP2 is the best choice. Leaning towards the 04-05 AP2 because I've heard the differential holds up better. Would be great if anyone has any feedback on which makes a better track car? Any truth to the concerns that the differential on the AP1 doesn't hold up well?
My plan is to pick one up when the weather starts to cool off a bit as I've seen price charts and they drop a few grand with the temp.

Welcome
I haven't heard anything about the AP2 differential being stronger and I wouldn't really worry about it unless you're planing on boosting the car or launching it aggressively from a standstill. Just change the fluid regularly if you're tracking the car, maintenance is key
