Default Looking to purchase a used S2K.......

I'm looking to purchase a used S2k locally and came across this recently.

2001 S2000 Black/Red
Currently 53,5xx miles
Two previous owners
Claims clean CARFAX
Title in Hand
Front brakes were replaced 5000 miles ago
Tires in good condition
Everything remained Stock
Asking price $15,700

I currently own 03 Acura CL-S 5AT which would eventually be replaced with S2K if i do buy one. Looking to sell it either thru private party or even consider trading it in.

I looked at the vehicle this pasty weekend but did not get to test-drive it b/c I don't have any experience with manual cars yet. My first impression was that it looked like a typical 6 years old car. A few scratches, door dings... something you would expect from normal driving.

Seller mentioned that there is about 4-6" long cut on the softtop. He's looking to replace with brand new one before I make the purchase but also offer to take off $700 making it $15k even if I buy it AS IS. I intially was looking to install hardtop but it seems they are anywhere from $2,500 to $3000. Do you think it's smart decision to purchase this vehicle without new softtop or will it cost me more to get it done myself? Any feedback/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

It would cost you more to get it done yourself.

The top itself is ~$760+ship from HardTopGuy and other online sources, but then someone has to put it on. I've read that it's a LOT of work to install a new top. Check here specifically for the top!

Of course, that's $700 saved to put toward the HT if you were going to just pull the ST out as some people do. Personally, even if I had a HT, I'd want to flexibility to use the ST, so I would have the previous owner get the new top installed.

I don't see any cars on this forum that's asking less than this guy. Could you direct me to certain links if you see something that I don't?

Well the seller claims it's a brand new softop and he's paying approximately $550. Does this mean he's either getting it used one from another owner or getting replica if there's such thing? May be the link you posted only sells OEM part?

I'm thinking about taking this car to nearest acura dealer point inspection. Do you think it's worth it?

There are aftermarket softops available, but I'm not sure what they run as I've not yet been in the market for a new top. He may be buying one of them and then installing it himself so he can sell the car with a functioning top.

Maybe you should ask him.
