I am confused about your deal as it appears you paid a lot more than the national offer. The offer is: $299*35= $10,465 + $3693 = $14,158 total plus TTT. Your deal is $426*35= $14,910 + $900 = $15,810. I assume your payment is $426 + sales tax or is the tax included in your $426 figure? A dealer in town just offered me $381/mth + 7% tax= $408/mth for 36mths with $500 total at signing. I am holding out for a better deal.

Looks like that $3693 down does not include tax and tags. To stay at that $299 payment, you'll need more like $5000 down. Still a good deal, i think.

To chickdr...

$426/mo includes $1775 in sales tax and registration fee. In MD we are charged tax on the ENTIRE purchase price of the car, for me that is 31500 with freight included.

Now, using your calculation, $14158 + TTF. So $14158 + $1775 = $15933.
My total outlet as you outlined is $15810.
So I saved $123 bucks when compared to the featured lease deal advertised by Honda. Did I get a good deal? I think I did.

For anyone in MD to get that 299/mo. payment, they'll have to come up with $3693 as suggested by Honda, and pay $1595 in sales tax ane $195 in registration fee, not to mention 100 in dealer processing fee. Instead of a 'due at lease signing' amount of $3693, you are actually looking at $5583 due. Now, if I have that much $$$ lying around doing nothing, I still wouldn't put that much down on a lease. My $900 only covered the first month's payment plus SD and 24 bucks in actual down payment.

In my case I am looking at $374/mth for 36mths with only the first payment due at signing. Don't think you need anywhere near $5K at signing. You can do much better than the listed deal...

so this is what i got quoted in the super preferred tier.

- zero down other than $675 drive off which includes first month's payment + registration
- 15,000 miles/yr
- security fee waived which bumps monthly payment of $401.xx to $407.80 including tax. preferred tier would be about $429 including tax

There's a lease calculator at the end of the first post. It's for Excel. You'll need to know the residual value, money factor and bank fees.

Residual is at 57% for 36/12k and 55% for 36/15k.
Bank fee is about $595, charged by AHFC.

Hi everybody. This is my first post here.....

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I just want to clarify: it IS possible to negotiate the price of the car normally, then ask for the lease, and receive a payment lower than the stated $299.00 offer?

Thanks in advance.

Recluse,

Yes, that is possible. The purchase price (or capitalized cost in lease lingo) affects your payments more than anything. Always negotiate the purchase price, ALWAYS. Even though you would be leasing, negotiate the price as if you were buying.

Click on my link to VWVortex, you'll find detailed info about leasing.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if those offers were a "take it or leave it" kind of thing......

Recluse- note my posts above. I am currently sitting on a 374/mth for 36mths offer. The total outlay is $374 at signing and then 35 additional equal payments= $13,464. This is less than the national offer(which has a total outlay of $14,158 or a true monthly cost of $393.27/mth). Just tell them what you want to pay and see if they will go for it. I would recommend working on the due at signing amount as it does not benefit you to "buy down" a lease. The national offer for example has a $2499 cap cost reduction(ie buy down). When I said no to the above offer, they offered to pay my last lease payment as well(another $537 off). This works out to $359/mth for 36/mths with only the first payment due at signing. The total for this deal is $12,924.
