Hello From Michigan
Hello Everyone
Danny here and I just got my first S2000. Before moving here I use to live in Australia and Japan.
Had a Evo 10 in Japan and Australia, then also had hatchback Corolla. Since moving here I've had the Lexus 07' IS250 and a 16' IS200t.
Now its the 2000 AP1 S2000. Main project aim is to update the car and make it more clean. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I still have no idea about S2000.
Thanks

Photos look good and show several "mods" popular with the high school crowd including red Civic badges and bling wheel lug nuts on aftermarket wheels. Headlights are from a 2004+ ("AP2") car.
What else has been done to the car you're aware of? I'm guessing the stickers are hints. Sill have the original roof with the plastic rear window?
Mileage? What's under the hood that's been changed?

Yes its so typical, seems the previous owners didn't really take good care.
Currently the condition it has just over 100,000 miles.
t1r 70r-em single exhaust with single exhaust cap with test pipe (I plan to put in a high flow cat, don't like the stink and need to make it more quiet)
Hard race rear and front anti-bump steer kit, rear adjustable rods.
Espelir lowering springs (Wheels just fit with these springs, might look to change them back to stock OEM setup)
Aem v2 intake (Typical)
Mishimoto radiator hoses
Enkei rpf-1 wheels in 17x9+45 and 17x9.5+38 in the rear. Tires are 225 in the front and 255 in the rear dunlop star specs. (Too Big and too wide for the car)
Built ap2 differential with 4.57 Richmond gears. Built by puddymod Driveshaft shop axles and axle spacers (Reves are too high for Hwy sits around 4000 at 70mph)
All aftermarket sound system with a 10" sub in the trunk and amp rack in the spare tire space
That’s what I have been told by the seller as its good points.
Bad and strange points
Apparently, the car was originally from Virginia, and driven back to Michigan. The previous owners think the car had some body kit as the front bumper has no vin sticker and sides look like it had side skirts fitted at some point. Paint seems strange looks like it was painted to match the kit they once had on, but paint seem thin and color is a match to the silverstone. The engine and gearbox was also replaced as the old one had spun the bearings, original owner from Virginia may have boosted it at some point before selling it. The car sat in the garage for 5 years until the engine was changed.
Lights are AP2 style but the output pattern is garbage, some aftermarket copy I'm guessing. Soft top has some small holes in the usual wear spots, but has a rear glass. Red seats,
red door inserts and some red plastic trim, but carpet is black. Alarm and audio is early 2000's, and seems like it was done by a shop fast and dirty. Air pump delete engine light issue.
Only had the car for the last 3 days and thats what I can see so far, I guess it will be a big winter project to get everything sorted.

Keep us up to date on the project, please. Looks like a good "rescue." Actually this doesn't look bad since you know what you want to do or have done. At least you can drive it in this condition and get ready for a Michigan winter.
The wheels and tires aren't bad assuming the rim widths are good. 225 front 255 rear is just a tad over the 215/245 OEM 17" tire spec. I'm running 215/255 on OEM 17" wheels. I hated the star spec tires for their noise but they handled well. Bridgestone SO4 at present.
The rear gears may be fine for autocross. Same with the suspension. Ebay is awash with S2000 parts some days so look there.
The headlight output pattern may be the bulbs if LEDs were fitted. LEDs don't fit the reflector patterns due to where the LEDs are vs the filaments in HID and halogens. I have a new Expedition with DHS (Dimmer than I'd Like Headlight Syndrome) and am truing to find a solution and most LED patterns are crap due to the reflectors.
There are reproduction AP2V1 wheels on the market. Some are suspicious of them but buyers here seem pleased.

FYI: the 225 is a bit small up front on a 9in wheel. 255s all around on 9in wheels is a very popular, and fast setup for the S2000. The rest of that parts list (especially the diff!) looks great with the exception of the springs (personally not a fan) and sub. 4,000rpm doesn't sound super high on the highway actually, but I'm not too familiar with the AP1 so I could be wrong.
Good luck with the project. Behind the Amuse bumper I personally think the AP1 bumper/lip with AP2 lights is the best looking setup for the S2000.
