Great Debate: 04 Used or 06 New in 4 Months?
#12
Financing is on the way .. I see the car Thursday. Should I check to see they are the owner? Where could I do this in Texas online? What are peoples experience with paying off someone elses loan with cash? Do you only deal with their financing corp?
Thanks,
Adam

Seeing how your planning to quickly mod the car you might as well get the 04.
In particular, it does have a smart airbag, which could be an issue for a passenger. In my own case, as you can see in my sig, I went through Honda's procedure to install an airbag cutoff switch in my 02, and it was difficult.
Also, there's the drive-by-wire throttle (and its related car control changes) that seem to be getting good reviews from owners (except for one guy who had electrical gremlins right from the start).

Adam, why are you dealing with his loan? That's the seller's problem. You pay him.
I guess most people finance directly and the finance company takes care of this
Any advice is good. Also what is everyone's top 10 things they would look for in a used honda s2000. I have a pretty bitchin list going. I am probably going to have it checked by a Honda dealer at my cost.
Thanks,
Adam

I think if he bolts, that's his problem and the lien holders come after him for not paying, but OK. I haven't been in this situation before so I'm only curious how it should work.
As for top 10 things out for... Have a look at the FAQ links and see if that helps. If not, PM me with some additional threads to link to as you get more information (I want to keep that FAQ alive and useful). Much has already been posted on this subject.
The biggest thing for me would be to have a compression check done on the engine to help get some peace of mind that it hasn't been overreved or starved of oil.
