Default Finally! New S2k driver from TX

After lots of inspection, hand-wringing and teeth-gnashing I purchased a 2000 Sk2 from a nice fella in Austin. It's not perfect, but Eric at Howdy Honda did the inspection, gave me some pointers and some negotiating points with which worked in my favor and didn't scare me out of buying the car (i'm horribly anxious about used cars the older I've gotten).

As a previous '02 VW GTI VR6 and '00 BMW Z3M Coupe owner who has been driving a Passat for the better part of a couple of years now, it's nice to be back in a car that feels like it was made to be driven. But, I'll be honest with you... I've no idea how to properly drive a 4 cylinder motor. It revs so damn high?! I knew the S2K doesn't have any torque but I keep expecting it out of habit I guess. That being said, I've always liked the car design and intent, but have just gone the German route so long it wasn't until I needed something affordable that I seriously began looking at the Honda.

While the car is a 2000, it came with 58k on the clock and a couple of things which need to be attended to.

1. 2 transmission bolts are missing...one is loose. Eric discovered this when doing the inspection and (naturally) it surprised the owner. Seems like I can get this repaired for about $600, but anyone have any suggestions? I haven't searched the forum yet for this but will be doing so...sounds like since I can turn a wrench, this may even be something I can do myself.

2. The soft top is not the original and was installed without the elastic straps. I tend to be overly worried about soft tops as I also had an MG Midget for 15 years and was continuously surprised by where water would leak.

I live near San Antonio and work near Boerne so the driving will be mainly back roads from my house to my office, but it's nice to have a daily driver that doesn't require a commercial boat license to drive. Looking forward to learning a lot from everyone's experiences here.

It's good to be an owner.
