Dreams/Nightmares of finding an S2K
Hello drivers.
So this is the introduction forum. So allow me to introduce. My name is Eric. And I am addicted to cars.
I wonder if anyone reading can empathize with me on this, my search for the right car to buy.
When I was younger I joined the military and I wanted to rid myself of my Toyota Terc-hell. I wanted a convertible so bad I couldn't stand it (not much has changed I guess). I somehow allowed my father to talk me out of it and I've regretted it ever since. I ended up buying a v6 Mustang coupe. Which I loved but It never spoke to me in the way I wanted it to.
From that I went to a Volvo that was gifted to me by my passed Grandmother. I drove the vulva for a few years and recently after a road trip to Vegas to drive some exotics through Red Rock canyon, the car soldiered through and got me home and the transmission died the next day. It's been sitting in my drive way ever since.
The repairs on the vulva are more than the value of the car and I can't sell it in its current condition. But! Now I have the excuse I need to drop the top on my dreams.
I've been looking at roadsters of all types. Boxster is my favorite but too rich for my blood. Z4 cheap to buy, trade your kidneys to fix, Mini Cooper S go cart handling = box of rocks on wheels, Saturn Sky Redline no trunk gotta and get out to go topless, my manliness won't allow me to buy a Miata for a daily driver soooooo here I am Honda S2000
Thing is now that I have decided to buy an S2K I just can't find one worth buying. The prices are just insane! I mean I routinely see them on lots with 90k miles if not more and the asking price is 20k$. I mean WOW. And there is no consistency either. One car of the same year and the price/mileage can swing 6k$/20kmi. Most I see for sale within 500 miles of LA are being sold by street corner dealers with an absolute gleeful disregard for customer service, quality, or care. It is maddening.
To make it more personally frustrating. In January I found two S2k's finally at the right price. 15k$ 50kmi at a Honda Dealer. I was saving my pennies and one sold. Got into some personal issues and my girlfriend saved the day so I gifted her with an engagement ring. And before I could get my money back together the other car sold..... Haven't found anything worth buying since.
Sigh. All I wanna do is get in my car and feel the wheels grip in the corner and mess up my now fiance's hair in the process. Why is this dream starting to feel like a nightmare?
Anyhow that's my introduction. Hope all you drivers are doing well. Take a corner faster than you thought you could for me.
Peace.

I was honestly in very similar shoes, but you can find them - I did.
I got my 04 last year in July 2012, with only 7200 miles. Clean carfax, mechanic checked it out with a perfect bill of health, mint condition..
For way less than anyone would ever think.
Good luck in your search, and thank you for serving.

Don't be afraid to look outside the LA area. I live in near Sacramento and I found mine in Phoenix. Had a great time driving it back. I got it from a dealer and we completed the transaction w/o me physically seeing the car. Some websites let you search all dealers and you can check ebay for others. I would personally stay away from Craigs.
Like others have said, it will come to you!

+1. & to add to that. You signed up an online forum & made a thread about this. It seems to me like this is an important purchase for you. I personally wouldn't mind going to Maine, Chicago or even Seattle, (I live in Orlando,FL) just to find the right car.
