Back into another S2000, advice requested
Recently got back into an S2000 AP1 after selling my 2001 SSM during the pandemic. Car is more or less stock.
I'm planning for some normal maintenance. Coming from a Miata, I have some Ford Motorsport XT-M5-QS MTF fluid left over from a recent flush. This site (https://www.professionalawesome.com/...-honda-s2000s/) recommends it. Worked well on my Miata, anyone use it in their S2000?
Also looking to update the 16 inch stock wheels to 17 inchers. Found a set of rears at 17x8.5 +59. The car is completely stock and I have no plans to pulling fenders. Should I be looking for a higher offset or would those rears work?

The easiest 16" to 17" wheel swap is the OEM "AP2" wheels. 3 varieties depending on your spoke preference. None are "correct" for your car so any will do.
I can never remember if a Plus(+) offset makes the wheels stick our farther or not. But here's the OEM offsets:
Front:
17" x 7.0", +55 offset
Rear:
17" x 8.5", +65 offset
Judging from posts here the S2000 gearbox really doesn't care what MTF you use so the Ford full synthetic should be fine. The gearbox seems to shift smoother when its oil is changed regardless of what goes in there. I've used official Honda MTF and Royal Purple SyncoMax MTF. Gearbox only holds 1.5 quarts so cost differences shouldn't be a factor. Let us know.

I'm also looking for some AP2V1 wheels but found a set of aftermarket wheels with the +59 offset for the rears. He had them on his S2000 but it seemed like an odd size choice.

Hope I found the solution. (Guys, feel free to pile on if I got this backwards! )
I like this diagram as it shows the wheel and suspension.
Assuming backspace and offset are the same thing a higher positive offset tucks the wheel deeper into the wheel well soooooooooo less positive offset will move the wheel (and tire) outward. In the case of OEM rear wheel +65mm vs +59mm the center of the wheel/tire and consequently the outer edge of the tire will move outward 6mm or 0.236" (less than 1/4").
