2006 S2000 - Who has one and what do you think?
#21
After 2 years dreaming and planning collected new '06 2 weeks ago.
Was delivered with 3 minor faults:
1. Radio door would not drop down. Top edge was catching on moulding lines of air vents. Fixed it myself, just a touch of glasspaper to remove flashing and a wipe of nylon/fabric lubricant.
2. Rattle from vicinity of drivers door lock - hopefully being fixed tomorrow.
3. 2 oil stains on roof. Was not evident when car first seen or when parked up prior to delivery Salesman delivered car to forecourt hood down & stain seemed to have been left when residual water appeared as hood was raised at home. Ditto above tomorrow.
So not impressed as numerous sneered at blandmobile type cars half the price purchased over last 20 years with NO faults on delivery.
Till driving demos. had never driven an S2000 before.
Drives like a dream and so planted and solid feeling after 10 years in a 1990 Mk1 Mazda MK5.
Potter around in 6th or give it a blast, it's 2 cars in one.
I think the sound system is fine, easily heard at speed yet still able to cary on conversations with passenger. The rear headrest speakers just right for adding enough rear balance to centre the sound. But then I listen to what is playing not the sound.
Poor engine note but then only 300 miles to date & yet to exceed 6000 revs and thus no VTECing - yet.
LOVE the credability it infers upon its owner - it is without doubt a much respected purchase, when the roads are teeming with naff looking Boxsters and Z4's zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Gearchange is now superbly smooth - like a light switch.
Visibility not brilliant when reversing as the bodywork so enveloping.
Lack of storage compartment ahead of passenger means risking crooked neck and twisted shoulders accessing centre storage bins.
The sheer luxury of an electric roof a joy.
Yes black a b....r but for me there was no other colour that suits its muscular
looks so well.
Despite the minor faults my dream car is in my garage.

There are a few things that I miss from my AP1, but I am not looking back. The stereo is not the best in the industry, but it is easily the best sound from any of the years of S2000. It gets the job done and I am happy with it. Even though it may just be highs, it makes a huge difference. I believe the engine sound is different. It is slightly lower and the scream through vtec is less high pitched. The vtec kick in is still powerful, perhaps even more so with the added torque. The kick was noticeable in my old AP1 and is still remarkable in my AP2. As far as the VSA goes, it is far less intrusive than what I had thought it was going to be. I love my AP2! The suspension changes were welcome additions amongst others. Yes, you will notice that the MY06 and MY07 are very much different from MY04 and MY05. And with DBW, if you ever ride with cruise control on the interstate, you will notice how it doesn't surge up and down constantly. The revs and noise remain so constant, it is kind of eery.

Hey. I had one two months ago, brand new S2000. Not looking back since.Good fun and comfortable for daily commuting, I will recommended. Seats are just right and no need to adjust sterring wheels. Right amount of torque at low end rev for city street use .
