Have had an '06 for three weeks now, not quite broken in. Never had one before, so I can't give a comparison with other years.
That said, I'm very happy with the car so far. Haven't driven it hard yet (still breaking in), but can tell you that concerns about low end torque are non-existent for me...seems to be plenty powerful. No issues with drive-by-wire...no discernible lag. Can't really comment on v-tec kick. Maybe in a week or so once we're past break-in.
The thing corners like it's on rails. Have pushed the limits a few times and no hint of the VSA kicking in. BTW, VSA can be disabled by pushing and holding the VSA button a couple of seconds.
The engine has a great sound, both inside and outside of the car. Reminds me of mid-60's classic roadsters, without the raspiness. Not as loud as you might expect, but just about right IMHO.
About the stereo...it's better than I expected, but not as good as I hoped. I would call it adequate, and what another poster said about the speakers in the roll hoops is right...you really can't tell if they make a difference or not. A little low-end punch would be welcome.
To sum up, this is a FUN car that begs to be driven.

heheh i can feel you there, I came from a 89 crx. I have alot done to the crx tho so the performance factor wasnt huge tho....i haev an '03 s2k so its not too relevant to the topic...

looking at the 9k redline of an 03 makes me almost wish i had the ap1 motor,
grpahically, it seems like more room to groove between 7-9k

a) My 2006 is a stronger performer than the 2005 that I recently sold.
( I may have just been just lucky with my new purchase)
b) I find the 2006 VTEC transition to be less abrupt than the 2005 model year.
(Nonetheless rather exhilarating)
c) The sound of the 2006 engine and exhaust over the 2005
(Superior)
d) The stereo system cosmetics look nicer with the integrated roll bar speakers
(Sounds better yet not really a great asset)
e) I prefer to listen to the harmonics of the car...
