Thumbs up 2.0L --> 2.2L

Just a few quick question that I cant find answers too.
1) When did the S2000 change to a 2.2L engine?
2) what does "MY" stand for?
3) what does "AP1" and "AP2" stand for?

Thanks a lot for your time...
Chris

correction, 2.2 came out in 2004, hence AP2

so, ap1 = 2000-2003 = 2.0L, ap2 = 2004+ = 2.2L

Chris, be sure to read the Introductions FAQ, which points to the thread which contains acronyms like these.

Welcome to the site.

Ya, sorry about that I really did look around the stickies, but just got more confised so thought I better post. Thanks you guys for clearing that up.

On a side note....I took my first S2000 for a spin. It lived up to all the Hype! The sales guy crabed the handles when I had it sliding...HAHA. Good times.

Whatever you do, I suggest you take it easy as you learn the car, Chris. If you're not familiar with pure rear-wheel-drive handling, you might get caught out losing the car in a spin.

Also, if you get an AP1, be sure to check the oil level and (if you can) get a leak-down and a compression test on the engine.

LOL, dont worry about that. I'm well aware of how to drive a RWD car. I've only ever driven RWD, and I know what to do when sliding. I was just shocked at how easy it came out. On my BMW I actually have to initiate a drift (clutch pop, or wieght transfer, ect.) but here I just took a corner tight and it just came out very smoothly. Now I know why you all drive them....

And also, are AP1's just prone to these problems, or is it just any S2K's that hit a certain age/usage?

What problem are you talking about, Chris? If you mean the way the car handles, well, most of us consider that a feature of this car. Various alignments and the latest MY06+ yaw control can change the way the car handles.

I was refering to the leak-down and compression. If I get an AP2 are these still just as much an issue?

And the way the car handles is not a problem but a plus in my mind...
