Hi guys, fellow s2k owner here from the Metro NYC area. After much debate over wether to go to California or Hawaii, my wife and I are planning a trip to the Big Island and plan on staying in Kailua-Kona (not Hilo). Could anyone chime in here and give me some recommendations on moderately priced hotels? In this price range I know I'm not going to get a spa resort or anything, but I'm just looking for a safe, clean and quiet place for 7 days. We plan on arriving 8/15 so time is of the essence.

We are looking at Royal Kona Resort and Kona Seaside Hotel via Expedia, just to give you an idea of the price range we're looking at (man a Hawaii vaca is expensive!!! haha). We're more the type that won't be spending much time in the hotel but rather out and about enjoying all the Kona has to offer.

Oh and any ideas on good places/prices to expect for a 1 week Jeep rental?

Ill go see if i can dig up any good hotels. But let me remind you, Kona will be hotter then hell....bring tons and i mean tons of sunscreen...spf 100 if you can find it. Most tourists get cooked and end up walking like a stiff cause of the sun. Aint much to do in Kona, cept golf and maybe see some volcanos or something. Hilo doesnt offer much of a nightlife either.
