I don't know if this is the result of the crash, but I got pulled over 3 times in one day... one for juicing it, passing a car on the freeway from 40 to 55mph (no ticket or warning issued), 1 for having illegal headlights (HID's were stock, therefore no ticket), and the last for suspicion of theft (don't have a clue where he got that one but again no ticket or warning).

Local Five-O is out, looking for reasons to pull cars over. FWIW, I don't feel too confident driving in all this on and off rain in semi bald S02's.

It's just you! Change those rear tires! I did mine last week Monday, and I had an easy time tonight in semi-deep water at 60-65! I didn't crash or kill anyone either.

Maybe I need to wear one of them fake mustaches or glasses with the big nose, perhaps even a wig.

I gotta change the rears out like yesterday. I drive like grandma who smoked a bag of weed and drove with the parking brake on when it rains. I have a set on order now but with this holiday season, it's gonna take a while to get here. I'm expecting to get flicked off by a lot of people in the downpour. I can see all the AWD guys laughing their arses off.

I got pulled over again, in the rain... and I asked what the deal was. Stuck in 3mph traffic in the drizzle, this happened right after the Halawa cutoff near the Panasonic building going westbound. Here's how it went.

I'm sorry if you got me mistaken for that car, but I was tailing a Chevy Cavalier pretty closely and I know I didn't gun it at all, I couldn't have being that close. The driver of the Civic obviously didn't want to be a part of this traffic so he cut across to the right, and sped off when he got the chance to take the Halawa exit.

Officer: Look, I know what I heard. Let me see your driver's license, registration, insurance, safety check and recon.

(gets the papers out of the center console, and hands DL to the officer)

Hyper: I have everything but recon. I know...

Officer: (rudely) Hold on (talks on his radio regarding my car) Where's your recon for your lights and exhaust?

Hyper: My lights are stock, here's the owner's manual and you can see for yourself. I don't have a complete exhaust system, I have aftermarket mufflers. I also know that I don't need recon for the exhaust, but I'm aware of a form/paper that says I don't need recon... is that what you're asking me for... the paper that says I don't need recon for the exhaust? (Yes, there is something this stupid that actually exists. You don't need recon for exhaust, but in some cases there is a need to acquire a paper that says you don't need one. Typical stupid Hawaii laws.)

Officer: (hands papers and my DL back) Here. I'm going to let you off with a warning this time. If I catch you again, make sure you get the recon done.

Hyper: With all due respect, a warning for what? For doing something I didn't do? For the record, I know that I don't need a recon for what I have, I went with a friend a couple of months ago to get a recon done since he dropped his car and had an aftermarket exhaust system. The recon guy said since we had a receipt showing it was done professionally, and unless it obviously jeopardized the normal operation of the vehicle, recon is not required and therefore not listed on the list of mods.

Officer: (talks on the radio) step out of the car please.

Hyper: (steps out)

Officer: Come here. (gestures me to walk toward the rear of my car)

Officer: I'm only trying to tell you to drive safely. I'm not trying to give you attitude or accuse you of anything. I'm giving you sound advice. I can write you up if you like, that's not a problem.

Hyper: (frustrated) Alright. In all due respect, let me be clear about where I stand on this whole thing, and can you please write all this down because I feel that I'm being harassed and I will submit a report of this situation and will use your name as reference.

First of all, I didn't do what you claim I did. You never mentioned once that you SAW me do anything, you only said you heard me which tells me you heard sounds of a car juicing it but since my car is a sports car, typical Honda with an exhaust system, you think it was me. Look at this traffic (points to the cars inching by, staring at us)... none of these cars can step on it, if I did... you'd be chasing me on the off-ramp going towards Halawa.

Second, you say that you're giving me a warning yet you haven't proven to me that you're positive that I was the culprit when all you had to say was "you heard this, and you heard that" but never did you ever say that you saw me in the remote sense. I don't feel that I should be issued a warning for something I didn't do.

Next, you're telling me to do something that isn't required by law in the State of Hawaii. I was pulled over 3 times in one day just a couple of days ago for all kinds of things like having aftermarket headlights which are stock and you said if you caught me again and referred to getting recon by then. I don't mind staying here all night if you have to verify what I'm telling you is true or not. You can ticket me, warn me, it doesn't matter anymore... I will submit a formal complaint about this, this is getting out of hand already and a lot of things don't matter anymore.

I'm getting pulled over for things I don't do, get accused of having mods that are factory standard equipment, and now I'm being warned for something I'm not guilty of doing? I feel I'm being harassed sir... like I said earlier, I'm a younger guy, driving a red Honda sports car with exhaust and HID lights but you won't pull over, let's say that car (points to a Infiniti G35) because it's not a Honda but has HID's also. I'm very sorry if it looks like I'm coming down on you, nothing personal... but I think it's time to submit a formal complaint. I hope you don't mind if I use your name and badge number in the complaint but I need to use specific examples as reference... but this guilty until proven innocent stuff is starting to get on my nerves. May I go into my trunk to get something to write on or could you write down your information for me?

Officer: Look, if I made a mistake, I'm sorry.

Hyper: No problem, I hope you can understand my standpoint. If 4 different officers pull you over for similar reasons like you had tonight, wouldn't you feel harassed? I support what HPD is doing, and you guys are doing a little too well with me but that's okay... but it comes to a point where the occurences are becoming annoying. So far it all happened when I had time like before or after work, or during my off days. If I got pulled over any other time for all the different reasons officers came up with, wouldn't it be fair to be a little upset with all this extra attention?

Officer: That's fair. I didn't know you got pulled over that many times. Does it come with owning that car?

Hyper: Yes. The day I drove it home the first time, I got a police escort to follow my car to Waipahu.

Officer: I'm sorry I wasted your time. Drive safely.

Hyper: Thanks, you too.

I submitted a written complaint at the Pearl City station. When the officer on duty asked me if I really felt like I was being harassed, I said yes since I'm getting pulled over between 2-3 times a month for the same reasons. I said to him that if I got caught (like over 5 years ago for speeding), I'm quick to admit it.

The officer said that the force is only trying to make sure the roads are safe and people are complying with the law. My reply to that was...

"that's fine and I have no objection... but I feel that part of the HPD force is focusing a lot of attention on people who look like they're driving fast or doing 56 in a 55mph zone rather than pulling over a person who's too busy talking on a cell phone and drifting into another lane due to the distraction."

In my opinion, Hawaii has some of the worst drivers I've ever seen but HPD appears to be wasting their times tagging the wrong people sometimes.
