Tantalus
so in all my time here in hawaii i had never actually been all the way around tantalus. today i discovered the beauty of taking those hairpin turns at 40mph in my S. i realized why i love my S also. it was almost like driving on rails. the back end didn't come loose unless i wanted it to ( which was on a few ocassions) , and i also got the chance to practice my drifting on a turn or two( at which point i was scared but having too much fun to care). all in all it was a great saturday morning and i found my new thing to do on saturday mornings. just thought i'd share this although i'm sure most of u guys have already driven tantalus plenty and had your own fun.

i agree, the backside of tantalus is a blast to drive, but watch out for those sections where the road is all bus cuz you can bottom out if you're lowered. also, don't forget the boys in blue love to patrol that area to stop our fun!

I just went up there this past Friday night with the SC. Its not the same anymore without my S. My new Lexus cant take those turns. I feel like Im a old lady driving up there, holding up everyone else lol. Saw 2 cops tagging people.

kent and i were contemplating going up there today at the end of our mini S cruise around H3 and bits of kaneohe and 13 turns but i just hate the stress of doing things against the law so we ended at starbucks manoa for coffee.

Bringing this back from the dead because I just discovered Tantalus on Sunday. It took a while to actually find the damn road, my Oahu map book definitely came in handy.
What a drive! I only got stuck behind someone a couple times (a beige Camry wouldn't you know it), and really got a chance to see the S2000 shine. Was suprised by how stable the rear end was. I thought it might be all over the place after reading about how oversteer-prone the car is.
Pulled over at a lookout point with a gorgeous view of the valley, Diamond head, Honolulu, and the ocean, of course. The road was blocked off about 3/4 (?) of the way, though. No biggie...I just turned around and had a blast going back down!
Is there a certain time when cops are least likely to be there? Early (~7am) Sunday/Saturday mornings maybe?
