Hurricane Jimena is expected to hit the Big Island in the next 24 hours.
I live on the Kona side and hopefully with Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, it will block most of it by the time it reaches Kona. Unfortunately Hilo and South shores is expecting to take a big hit unless over the next 12 hours, it changes course. I'll have to tuck the s2k away and hopefully it doesn't get too bad. Here's a satellite image of Jimena:

I've been watching the track of the hurricane lately, and I hope the "projected" path is correct because the path I see would take it directly over the Big Island. Good luck Spanky, hope it doesn't hit the Big Island. I also hope it doesn't veer off and hit the rest of the chain like hurricanes in the past have done.

Well, so far so good. We'll see tonight and early tomorrow morning. The hurricane seems to be weakening a little and the projected path looks like it's gonna move a little South/West. It's actually quite calm right now. I hope it stays this way. Thanks guys! Until then, Aloha and Happy Driving!

I do hope for the best for you and the rest of the BI. But calm right now is not a good sign. Remember how quiet and calm it was before Iniki? I am not a meterologist, but I think the humid calm air attracts storm activity or something like that. But as I said, I hope that the storm goes away. Good luck!

Just an update. The hurricane barely had an effect here in Kona. Winds remained quite calm and just a little rain this morning. Stayed cloudy all day long which is actually very comfortable. I can't say the same about the other parts of the island though. I heard that up north in Waimea had lot's of rain and wind. Wierd since the hurricane passed south of the Big Island. Haven't heard anything about Hilo or South Point yet. I hope it wasn't too bad there. I'm just relieved that everything remained calm here. Thanks for the concern everyone. There should be some waves hitting the shores which will be ideal for the surfers that fear nothing. It should miss the rest of the Hawaiian islands and head west. Once again, thank you for your concerns. Until then, Aloha and Happy Driving!
