powder coating is some strong stuff dude.. they electrically charge the powder ions and the metal they are spraying it onto so that they form a ultra tight bond.. straight science tip.

We have a powder coater at work, I would have to say the finish if far stonger than paint including epoxy enamels. Like others have said, powder coating can take a beating...

Does anybody know where i can get my stock 07 rims paint blasted. I have a black s2k and was thinking blasting them black or gold. You guys think thats a good idea or what? and what color should i do them. Suggestions please!
one of my friends powder coated a replica wheel (rota) and it weakened the rim..

hit a small pothole and the rim cracked..

just be careful, the powder coating weakens the rims slightly

i dont think poweder coating gets hot enough to change the grain structure of aluminum. as for your friend, its a rota.

Sorry, that's just silly...you base your conclusion on a single incident? I've seen forged wheels crack as well as cheap-ass Rota's and OEM wheels.

brake disc temps, and consequently the wheel hub area, gets hotter than the baking temp of the powder. i wouldn't worry about the heat.

good wheels are forged under tremendous pressure and heat, and even cast wheels are molten at conception. 400 degrees shouldn't be a problem.

no i didn't base my conclusion on one incident, i was just making one reference from a powder coating job. true, it could be just being the fact that it was a rota, but dozens of others had rotas back then and that small pothole was by a friends shop. many-a-rota's have been to the shop, dropped into the hole to get there and not one cracked?

perhaps it was bad luck. perhaps it was the coating. whatever the case may be, it was an example...i was stating that to just think about it, not an end all type of comment
