Need Info For AP1 Coming To Oahu
Okay so I will be picking my S2K on October 14th and I am trying to find out where I need to go to get safety inspections and these things like SFYT or whatever and what I have to do to prep my car and what will kick it back for any reason. If anyone out here knows please let me know cause the last thing that I am going to want is to have my S just sitting here and not being able to drive it because of some stupid reason.

Depending on what is done to you car it is hard to say if you will or will not pass the SI. If you car is lowered, if you have a body kit, exhaust, larger wheels, tinted windows darker than 35%, etc.. all those things can make it difficult to pass. Some places are more lenient than others but it can be a pain in the ass to find one that will pass you if you have a lot done to you car. Most military bases have a place that can do the inspections, gas stations, dealer ships, sears, and several mechanic shops.

where is the car coming from?
I just brought a car to hawaii from NC back in 07. The process is not hard, but it takes time. Once you get here, you are allowed 30 or so days to run your out of state plates before you must either submit a military exemption form that allows you to keep your out of state plates, or you must title and reg the car in hawaii. are you military?
What has been done to the car? You may need recon (a bullshit local inspection, 4-6 week waiting list!) in order to safety/register it etc...
A good source of info is to call the hawaii satellite city halls, best bet to get someone who speaks english as a first language is to call the ala moana branch or pearlridge branch. they won't know anything about cars, so don't try to ask about tint, suspension mods etc... but they will know the process to get the car legal here.

I am in the military and the car is coming from Georgia...it has Invidia V3 cat back...megan headers...mugen cat...injen cai...this ugly veilside knockoff bodykit...and 17x7 front an 18x8.5 rear tenzo-r shu 10's...stock suspension, electronics, interior, no tint...i know about the DD941 that you get from legal so you only have to pay 25 dollars to get your plate since you are not claiming residency but that didnt stop city hall from charging me over 500 dollars to register my car when i got it because of the difference in state sales tax...well im sure when i start inprocessing tomorrow they will tell me all these things in more detail and such

with stock suspension you will have no problems getting safety. fyi ~ legal tint is 35% for non trucks / suvs.
you should be able to get away with the rims, if not you can borrow my ap1s. see you in a few weeks!
