Moving to the Big Island
My husband and I may be moving soon from North Carolina to the Big Island. Obviously, we want to bring our S and are looking for some recommendations from anyone who has experience shipping their S to Hawaii from the mainland. We briefly discussed selling it and buying a new one when we arrive, but it's only a year and a half old, has only 3500 miles on it and hasn't given us any trouble. When we moved to NC from Texas they just put it on the moving truck, but it's a little trickier getting it to Hawaii.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From my experience shipping a car from the east coast, I would recommend that you find a good company to work with. A good company will have a tracking system for your car and will tell you how and who will be used to ship your car.
You have to remember that the car will be placed on a truck going to west coast and once it get there it will be put on a boat heading to Hawaii. With respect to the boat make sure that your car will be placed in a shipping container - some companies will just have the car driven on the boat exposed to the sea air. With respect to the cross country trucking, you've seen those car transport with the two levels, make a request that your car is not put on the top level.
Just to tell you I have shipped a car from Hawaii to the east coast and back. When I shipped the car to the east coast, upon delivery I saw that it was loaded on the top level of the truck above the trucking cabin. Upon inspection my car (which was black) was splattered with alot of bugs and debris which took alot of washing, polishing, and waxing to take out. The company I worked with (I forgot name although I know it was located in Nevada) did not take any responsibility or paid for the cleaning. I submitted a claim but was never answered. I learned by lesson and shipping back to Hawaii I found a company that was better - I have to go look - that answered by questions and fulfilled my requests and when I recieved by car in Hawaii it was in good condition.
Well I hope this helps...
