MINI Cooper S
I'm doing some research on this car. I've always wanted one since the "Italian Job" came out. Joined up on a local forum, but damn, they're awfully slow in approving my account....So, I figure I ask the local S2K community.
Anybody have any experience with these cars? I'm just looking for another DD and the MINI is cheap (17.5K for 05 S with 24K Miles!!! on Craigslist). Cool and odd (sorta like me -- odd part, only). Seem to get great gas mileage. I've driven them before...tons more room compare to an S.

The first gen Cooper S's are seriously fun to drive. There are always several being run at the auto-x events down at the stadium. Might be able to talk your way into a lap in one of them if you are lucky...

if at all possible i would get an r56 mini (07+) we have the s/c one and its ok but the turbo mini is MUCH faster. that car puts down ~200wheel torque. it is a good race with the s2000 because down low it has so much torque it just pulls away from the S until vtec which takes forever. i raced my friend and this happened.

my bro has one and he just started autoxing. he loves it. I still love my S2K. I prefer the traditional look of the roadster that the S2K has and the mini does not. However as a second car, I approve.
you'll really love it, they are fun fun fun to drive.

I own a s2k and a Mini S. They are each great in there own way. The MINI S has fantastic handling and a surprising amount of room inside. Get the upgraded s/c pulley for about $150 and it makes a huge difference. It's so much fun that it doesn't feel like a girly car like most people portray it.
Go for it!

Thanks for your inputs...as I've said, I have test driven this car before. You'd be surprise how much room it offers. I've got a friend that 6' 4" who fit comfortably in this car. As soon as a I sell my current DD I'll consider one in silver, green, or black.....

Looks like you can actually rent one for a day...http://www.littlehawaiirentals.com/.
How's the non-S MINI? Gas mileage is big factor for me right now. I'll be driving a lot more soon than I am now.

The non-S mini is a joke. I drove my friend's one while he drove my STi and I seriously had the to mash the gas all the way to the floor to merge onto the freeway. It probably felt even worse cuz I just came from driving the sti, but it was still ridiculous.
