i would stay in oahu and fly to where ever you want from here becasue air fair is so cheap now(~$75) to a neighbor island. and to your luck the big island volcano just fired up(i just saw it on the news) but hopefully the lava will still be flowing when you get here or the only lavaflow you will see is at the mai tai bar
A day trip to Big Island sounds great! Thanks for the idea!

We'll just schedule our time when we're in Ooahu and see if the conditions are worth it, if the volcano is flowing lava, to decide on the day trip.

How much time would you recommend to set aside for the Big Island?

What's best way to see the volcano? From what I understand, the helicopter rides are the only way.

Again, thank you! Your comments are sincerely appreciated.

Before, (~6 months ago) you could hike out onto the lava field at night and be up close and personal with the lava.

Recently, the flow patterns have changed. Everything stopped for a while and there were a few mild earthquakes. Now the flow is in a different area that is not accessable by foot. The only way to see it is with a helicopter. However, the flow is supposed to be pretty crazy right now.

[QUOTE=dky1e,Jul 22 2007, 10:48 PM] Piggybacking on joeLTron's thread, my gf and I are interested in doing a quick 5-6 day trip to Hawaii end of August. I would like get some feedback from fellow s2k enthusiasts actually residing in the beautiful islands before we actually book the trip.

Original plan was to see the Big Island, mostly to visit the worlds most active volcano. But, were quickly convinced by our friends who spent some time there that there really isn't anything else to see but the volcano
