Storto's Deli and Sandwich Shop, located in Haleiwa at 66-215 Kam Hwy. I remember the address because we had to google it. At first glance, if deserted, would be close to something out of the movie "Goonies". Like every other food joint in Haleiwa it's situated in an old shack along the highway. The old and weathered picnic tables were lopsided and..well..dirty. If you're looking for ambience, this is not the place to go. There are bars on the window of the front porch, are they to keep the secret ingredients in or out?

However, the front was packed full of cars and customers coming in and out with mysterious pink packages, you know, the kind you get from the fish market. The menu was simple with several sub recommendations but you could pretty much pick whatever you wanted. I think everyone will agree that it's the bread that makes this sandwich so delicious.

half

full

only meat, no lettuce, no tomato, no mayo, no nothing but meat and bread

or you can catch your own

If you plan on going here it might be better to go on a day that isn't a national holiday, that way you might not get plowed over by the big DH cruise or have to drive slow because you're following a sightseeing tourist.

The price came out to about 20 dollars for a full and half sandwich with drinks and chips. For some of us it was a much more expensive day.

All in all it was a nice little adventure getting out there and getting home.
