Hey Snuff,
Sorry to hear about the S.... I hope you can get as much as possible to get something else, another S2000 or some mods for the STI.
I too didn't receive all 3 keys for my S2000 when I got it and I left a message with the dealership after hearing about what happened to you to find out where the other one is, assuming there is another one.
There's a guy Tim who drives an STI at the SCCA events and he's just started to re-learn how to drive his new ride. I gotta tell you, it's one sweet car. The first thing I noticed under the hood is the lack of the throttle cable, drive by wire eh? His times are a few seconds ahead of mine and I'm using him as my benchmark to compare my progress. He has much more experience that I do so I'd imagine his times will improve significantly as the months go by. I just have to learn how to control a semi-loose car and master each of the basic fundamentals of driving.
I don't think there's much of any real "trick" to drive the S2000 fast. A person who understands driving lines, steering angle, entry and exit speeds, braking (very important), and managing tire grip through the turns to include the delicate act of shifting the weight load around, and knowing the speeds in which to take each section at the best speed can drive any car fast I think, but it requires time to learn all these things.
My suggestion is to take the car out, drive around, make some time to join some driving events to take your mind off of a few things.
