Hows it going guys?
Well...I still have not made the move...but I have a job lead and gone through a phone interview already. The company is interested, but I will be looking at a pay cut. I was wondering if some of you can help me out.
Do you think that 32k/year is enough to live in Hilo, HI?
I dont need to live in luxury or next to the shore...just in a decent place. I cannot seem to find a whole lot of rentals in Hilo...so any help or suggestions (again ) would be appreciated.
Have a good day!!
Thanks,
Fern

Thanks Betty.
Thats exactly why I chose the Big Island to move to
Its large and the climates are quite different...much more room to roam in then the other islands.
I hope spanky sees this too

good luck, i hope you find something/place good there.
i think the rent there is cheaper than here on oahu, but i'm not sure. i know my girlfriend's parents rents out their other house for about $900 a month to some people. and last time i was there, these 2 girls were renting something for about $500 a month, but i'm not sure how the availablility is...
yes i like it there too good luck!

Sorry for chiming in so late. 32K/year isn't much but for Hilo, it actually might get you by, barely. The cost of living is lower than the rest of the island although it's been going up. Only thing about Hilo that I don't like is that it rains ALOT!!! It's nice that it stays cool when it is raining but when it's a sunny day, you'll definitely feel it being so humid and all. I know a couple of people that works at "Title Guarantee"- Escrow and Title that does pretty well. Rentals in Hilo are hard to find but so is everywhere else on the Big Island. Of course there are a few places you want to avoid living in Hilo like anywhere close to Downtown Hilo, Keaukaha, etc.! Waikea Uka or Komohana are nice places to live. I'll try to find out about the rental situation in Hilo when I talk to a close buddy of mine that lives there. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for all the reply's!!!
Yeah...if I want to move there, I will be taking quite a hit in pay...but I would love to live on the islands and debate if it will be worth it. I dont want to live lavishly...just make my s2k paymnts, rent and bills (of course stay away from the places Spanky warns about )
