Hawaii University
Dear Hawaii S2K members,
I am soon going to have to apply to colleges in the next year and I am sure to put Hawaii (Honolulu maybe) down on my list for applications. The reason is I love the beach and Hawaii is so beautiful and its close to Japan (closer than TX), but I have heard some pretty bad things about Hawaii's universities.
People say everyone slacks off and no one tries etc etc. Teachers don't even teach and everyone just ditches if its a really good day.
Is this true?

There's no "Hawaii University". No offense to anyone, the closes thing to a "Hawaii's University" is the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I am an alumni and did work there for a few years after graduation. Slightly better than average. What are you planning to major in?

I had those same stereotypical prejudgements going into the college, but I can tell you it's a lot harder than ppl say. I wasn't no dummy in high school either, not to sound cocky or anything. I was expectng to slack thru UH and get straight A's, but it's a lot of work, and I haven't gotten close to getting straight A's. The placement exams are a joke, but once you start taking the classes it's hard. I got into the honors program, and those honors classes are a LOT harder than the regular ones (at least the ones I took).
It may depend on your major, and I'm sure there are some teachers that fit your description, but I wouldn't say it's the norm.

UH of M is ranked in the top 90s for Law school. other than that, no Hawaii school is ranked in the top 100. As for college, i think you can only get what you put in. You can go to Stanford and still find the slackers.
I go to HPU and the i think the school system and student body is great

Isn't the highest paid position a UH Manoa the football coach? Kinda tells you where the priorities are.
I have one kid in college and one heading off this fall. My advice to them FWIW, I went to UH and I drive an S2000, not an NSX.

HPU professors are very good! uh professors kinda suck... some are good though. if you plan on graduating in 4 years you shouldnt count on it because you have to be at least a senior like me to got some of the classes you need
