Going to Hawaii in May
Hey all!! My gf and I are coming over to the islands the beginning of May for about a little over a week. Looking to see if there are any local meets. Also any tips from the locals for areas to avoid for safety and places you all can recommend that aren't as "touristy" but worth seeing. We will be in Oahu and looking to stay in Waikiki Beach area but having a hard time deciding on what hotel to stay at. Looking forward to any input from you guys!!
Thanks in advance!

Everything! Mostly outdoors stuff. The things that have me excited are to see the beaches, scenic views, state parks, jungle areas, smaller towns outside of the city, local small straw shops if there are any like the ones you see in the Bahamas. We both are very into photography and like to shoot landscape for the most part. We want to enjoy the beach but mostly want to see the things you wont see here in Florida. IE, mountains, hiking, trails, bike rides, atv rides in canyons etc. The horsebacks tours sound like they would be a blast. I want to see a Hawaii car meet as well and meet some of the local S2K guys. When I was in the Mazda scene I always made it a point to meet new people from the forums whenever I went out of state. I want to do the same here.
Is it possible to rent a scooter to travel the island or does one really need a car?

If you've never been to Hawaii you are in for a treat... just got back from my fourth crossing... everyone likes something different but the Shrimp Trucks on the North shore are the bomb for me... hot and spice will hurt you but they are all good... I would opt for a car to make the trip from Honolulu to North Shore... man, there's so much do to, even on Oahu but I kind of favor the Big Island... any Islalnd, they're all good... mmmmmmmmmm Shrimps, they are so good. Check out the windmills over that way... they weren't there during our last visit... on one hand they kind of ruin the landscape but man, they are so friggin' hi-tech, something out of a Sci Fi movie... sorry for rambling... wish I was going with you... enjoy.

Glad to see the excitement. We will likely not rent a car but one day to go to the northern parts of the island to explore some. Did you take any tours while you were there? Anything you recommend that you have done on your past and most recent visit? Thanks!!!
