Gears install.

I have gears, but I purchased a complete 2004 pumpkin with 4.57's pre-installed from hardtopguy. That way I only had to swap the differential and I saved big bucks on install fees.

Mice and I had our gears installed locally.
I had Joey's brother in law do mine. (might want to ask Joey @ Midas touch)
Im not sure exactly where mice had his done, I'll let him chime in for that.

who is mice? Can you guys give me a round about figure on install prices you paid?
The owner of Pearl City Autoworks has retired. He turned the shop over to his daughter. I've heard that he has trained someone else to set up gear sets with correct back lash and coast.
I have beening doing business with Dennis (the owner of PCAW) for over 35 years. Over the year he had installed several gear sets and custom reworked a Chevy 12 bolt diff to fit my 1976 Nova SS ( I broke the stock one and 10 bolt from a 1969 Firebird prior to the 12 bolt). I never had any problems after he worked on my cars.
Dennis has a fine work crew there at PCAW. His prices are not cheap but quality work cost money.
I follow John Ruskin's advice:
It's unwise to pay too much...but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money...that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. It can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run. And if you do that, your will have enough to pay for something better.

Yeah I'm definately of the "do it once, do it right" school of thought. I'll give them a call in the morning. I'm still curious about what i should expect to pay. HTG charges 450 for the install. Is that on the high, low or average?
