How fantastic, a marvel of expensive high-tech wizardry can barely keep up with a typical turbodiesel.

38 mpg from a mid-size car is really good... about the turbo diesels are they that slow? i'm not sure, but drove a prius (friends loaner) it's not fast but sufficient.
