Default Buying rims and stuff locally...

Why is it so damn expensive!!!

I usually always order online and after shipping i can expect a pretty good savings. I thought i'd give the local guys another try so i stop by Eurosport and Vakamon.

I dont mind paying maybe $100 more for a wheel and tire package locally but no its like 25% more even if i factor in FedEX 2nd day air and better tires with the online retailer.

Just needed to rant.

And BTW I told the guy at Vakamon i didnt want to downgrade too much from the stock Potenza S02's. According to him Federal ss595's handle WAY better than them....

i feel your pain, you just gotta realized we do live in the middle of the pacific
it's probably cheaper to buy from tirerack, even if we lived on the mainland compared to local shops

I know what you are saying. I bought my suspension setup from a dealer on the East Coast, the same setup I bought, Vakamon wanted $400 more and they were going to charge me shipping on top of it. I was blown away..

Yeah, plus vakamon probably doesnt get the same discount compared to the store you bought them from previously. Most company dont give out the same rates to stores that buy from them.

i dunno if your from Hawaii, but i plan on buying and shipping all my parts to my home back in Socal, which makes shipping way cheaper and just take them back on the plane. Saves a few pennies when your cheap like me

i feel all your pain.

I have heard some good stuff about this place http://www.shiptohawaii.com/

you have whatever you order shipped to them, then they ship it to Sand Island and you go pick it up there. If you play around with the shipping calculator, you actually can save a lot on shipping, *esp if the seller are doing free shipping for the lower 48 states*

I agree I would give my business to local vendors if they didn't pass all of their cost along to the customer. I have never tried SHip to Hawaii I think it would only make sense if the company wouldn'y ship to hawaii. The best savings is to ask for items to be shipped FedEx Ground, yeah I know it dosen't make sense, but it only takes a few days longer then 2nd day air and is like half the price.

Many ecommerce sites I use don't even offer ground as an option, am I missing something? Even with 2nd Day service though the savings is still pretty big over buying locally. I too wouldn't have much of a problem paying a premium to buy local if the expertise was there. I encountered a lot of misinformation and poor installations with a number of local shops.
