Just got done watching the Japanese version and it had a very good section involving the S2000 Type S.
Guest Appearance by: Uehara Shigeru of Honda Japan
Track: Honda Japan's closed course
Driver: Kurosawa Motoharu (Gan-San)
Ghetto Translation: Hyper-X
The video starts off with a shot of the AP1 driven by Gan-San back in 1999 during its unveiling on April 15, 1999. Mr. Uehara starts off describing the engineering goals with the S2000 started with a vision of a very responsive convertible with a high level of rigidity found in cars with a closed chassis, led to development of the high x-bone frame, behind-the-front-axle placement of the engine, and such.
It goes into some evolution into the AP2 body eventually introducing the F22C1 having more torque with a lower redline.
They bring back Gan-San, who's the same driver who got the first chance in the AP1, then leading to the new AP2 chassis eventually leading to the 2006 version with the 2.2L, now to have his try at the Type-S. (this leads to a shot of the Type-S stating that the car is a prototype)
The car has
- 2400mm wheelbase
- 1270kg curb weight
- new front lip to add downforce up front, a rear wing for stability
- 300g wheels on Potenza RE050A tires 215/40R17 up front, 245/40R17 in the back
- front spring rate increased by 7%, damper rate increased by 14%
- rear spring rate increased by 3%, damper rate unchanged for balanced tuning
- 242ps @ 7800 rpm, 22.5 kgm torque between 6500-7500 rpm
From there it goes into a shot panning the inside to include the headrest speakers, and such.
Gan-san takes the car out for a driving impression said "wow the normal S2000 was good but this is great". Mr. Uehara overlooks Gan-san's driving and says "wow he's really pushing hard" with a smile.
Well that's it for now, don't want to expose too much, lol.
