Default battery replacement

the dealership told me that my battery failed the test and is probably on its way out soon so i need some recommendations on what to get. what type of battery i should get and where should i get it from? i wouldn't mind getting one of those lightweight ones if they're not much more expensive than OEM.

Justin,
Check with McCurry. He has one of the light weight batteries in his car.

That's correct. I have the Hawker Genesis battery. I don't know the price of an OEM battery, but the Hawker cost about $85 plus shipping. I've had no problems starting so far, but I've only had it less than a year. Check out portablepower.com for the pics and models. I think mine was the G16EPX but I'm not sure. Mike helped me to install it, as it is about half the size of the OEM battery and needed some wood blocks at the base of the battery to keep it from sliding around. At least you'll have a template if you pick up the same battery. Will save you 13 pounds too.

thanks for the heads up guys! hey stephen can you check on the exact model number of your battery when you get the chance? $85 sounds reasonable so i'll probably get the same one as you. do you still have that template mike?

Justin:
Here's what I found out. I have the 0769-2007G16EP
This is cheaper, but on the website, they recommend the Odyssey line of Hawker for motorsports.

The reference for the Odyssey line is 0769-2016PC680
The link to that is here ---->click here

They are both the same weight and size, but the Odyssey is a little more and comes with a red top instead of my black

price for G16EP = $64.95
price for PC680 = $72.95

I don't know what they charge for shipping.
BTW, the template is just taking out my battery and measuring the wood blocks base that Mike fabricated for me.

thanks for the info stephen! so you think i should go with the odyssey? is there any difference besides the color? i'm a cheap bastard so i'm not paying $8 more just to get a red top. also i noticed in those pics that the batteries don't have any terminals. do they come with the battery?

The website recommends the Odyssey for automotive applications as they say they will not warranty the black top version for race cars since it wasn't made to endure the extra vibration as the Odyssey line is (I don't know how though, since they spec them both at the same weight).
In any case, I figure $8 is worth the peace-of-mind. I only got my version because that was what they were selling through the GoFastLabs here at good 'ol s2ki marketplace. It's no longer available there, though I do not know why.

Since I didn't order through portablepower.com I don't know if they include terminals or not. You will need them though. Perhaps they can be sourced locally at an automotive shop? I'm not sure.
