Yea, well... The computer at my cube mate's desk was reporting a really, really weird error on reboot that basically kept him from working. For two days. Climbed under the desk this morning and found that a piece of networking gear (a media converter) was unplugged. He reconnected it and, what do ya know, it fired right up!
We all laugh that they do it but that first question the Help Desk asks (Is it plugged in?) really is that important.

I am actually just lying to myself. I am really, really frustrated right now...
I am trying to come up with an accurate analogy so I can sort of explain it but I honestly can't. I have been asked to install a certain software package on a couple of servers (X Window System). This should be a run-of-the-mill sort of thing. But a group of people, in their infinite wisdom, decided that no one would ever need X Windows so they never configured the software repositories so that it could be installed. In fact, (and you Linux guys will know what I am talking about) groupinstall isn't configured AT ALL.
I work in an almost unfathomably large organization. Global in every sense of the word. We have this one HUGE software repository and EVERYBODY uses it. You mean to tell me that no one has decided this is important?
No one?
& & all at the same time.

I actually can't argue with that.
