It used to be common to mount an outlet under the sink and then just plug the disposal into that outlet. Dunno if that is still done or even code these days...

I have never seen a plug in disposal. Must be some weird NJ/VA stuff Jeff saw when he was younger. Evan, I'd bet my right kidney you are hardwired.

Any disposal I've seen has been hardwired as well..? It makes sense to me as you don't want receptacles right underneath a wet location. Heck, it's ridiculous how anal these days code is on electrical wiring and things having to be GFCI protected (garage outlets is one example).

There is very little difference between having a j-box under the sink and having a GFCI outlet or water-proof cover.

I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that you can easily remove the plug, and voila, just hardwire it. I guess we'll see when I get mine and open up the box. It would make a lot of sense since many locations are hardwired.

I just did a google image search on garbage disposal. There are TONS of pictures of installed systems under sinks that are wired up with outlets. ![th_dontknow.gif](https://www.s2ki.com/forums/images/smilies/th_dontknow.gif)

Granted... There are just as many that do not...
No idea what is kosher these days. Been out of the biz too long.
