I know most of you guys (OK - all of you guys) are pretty much used to my random rants and totally just ignore them...

BUT...

You might remember my little story about lawn mower parts and the USPS? Anywho... Something interesting was brought to my attention. I ordered an item (that radio for my new drone habit) and it was sent UPS "SmartPost." That means the package is picked up by UPS but the "final mile" is done by my "friends" at the USPS (boo! ).

Well... UPS sends me this "My Choice" e-mail altering me of this fact and providing me with the tracking number. They also include this offer:

This package is not eligible for UPS My Choice features including an estimated delivery time since final delivery is being provided by the U.S. Postal Service.

Upgraded packages will be delivered by your UPS driver and typically arrive one day earlier.

For immediate access to your UPS My Choice features or to make changes to this delivery, you may upgrade this package ($3.50 fee applies; free for Premium Members).
Do I do it or not?

I have never had a problem with USPS, but this may save some headache.

The only reason I do is because they generally do not deliver to my home. I live on a "rural route" so they use gang mailboxes and parcel lockers. Anything that don't fit stays at the Post Office. Which is, of course, close to half an hour away.

Yes. Much headache this will prevent. But I'm cheap and not sure how much my headache is worth.

with the post office being a half hour away, you will probably save $3.50 in gas alone.

I think that dollar figure is a little high but your point is well made.

It is a 20 mile round trip but it takes so long because I have to literally go over the river and through the woods to get there. Lots of twits and turns on an inefficient route. I pushed it pretty good the last time I went in an effort to beat the clock and it still took me 20 minutes one way.
