A Tesla was the cause of what? 1 fatal accident while using auto-pilot?
I have seen enough asshattery in the last six or seven years of commuting to convince me that automated driving will save lives, time and, ultimately, money. Personally, I am planning on having two cars - one sports car something that I can take out to the twisites and another super-automated, self driving whatever to get me to work without pulling out my hair.

Bobbie and I are going up to the Finger Lakes the last few days of September and the first few of October. If you plan your little thing for the 24th (the last Saturday of September), we will probably be there.

No, no... I was actually agreeing with you. The minor issues with self driving will get sorted but there is no way we can fix all the crappy human driving that happens every day.

Yep.. I share the sentiments here and can't wait for self driving cars. Since smart phones became so common, drivers have gotten an order of magnitude worse and less attentive/distracted. I do believe self driving cars will be a big improvement in many regards. Regarding Teslas, I think they're relatively limited relative to more expensive sensor equipment out there, and we'll probably see that change as well in time. With the invention of self driving cars it'll certainly introduce some new dynamics with cars that we don't currently have (will your car stay parked at work or drive home and chauffeur others around?). This might help offset some of the initial higher costs associated with self driving cars.

Oh yeah, I know... I was just stating a point that people may want Tesla's head because their software didn't prevent this crash, but it has likely saved many others from a similar fate.

I can see us now when we are elderly, telling small children how we used to have to drive our own cars, had to maintain them and had to put in this weird fluid called gasoline into them.
