I bet that felt good.

I made the mistake of trying mine indoors. (Christmas gift... It was cold outside.) It went full throttle into a kitchen cabinet and I was making my first repair seconds after turning it on.

I can see the argument for that.

Especially when the guided ones have cameras on them. I fully expect some redneck to start taking pop-shots at anything I try to fly in my backyard.

Hard start kits used to be on all the units a long time ago, I now have one permanently on my pool heat pump because just regular capacitors wouldn't do it for some reason. They have to be the right one for your unit but once again cost about $10 and if for some reason it goes out at the beginning of a holiday weekend (everytime I have an HVAC issue) I can get and keep my unit running without a service call at emergency rates.

You don't want to know how many spare parts I have for the pool one/ I think my wife can rebuild it blindfolded
Cool thanks for the explanation. So you got heat pumps, gotcha, that makes sense. I have gas heat so the compressors only run a handful of months out of the year so it's less critical. Any sites or diys you'd recommend for diagnosing hvac equipment? I know it ain't rocket science but there seems to be limited knowledge out there. I can usually diagnose what's wrong with the system, but actually fixing it not so much..
