TIL...

Origin and Pronunciation of the name Dracut

Some people inside Red Hat started to name their projects after cities and villages around the developer headquarters of Red Hat in Westford, Massachusetts.

So, dracut is named after the town Dracut, similar to Wayland and Weston.

According to Wikipedia, dracut it is pronounced: /ˈdreɪkət/

Serious question.. anyone operated a bobcat/skid steer before? I'm giving serious consideration to renting one for a day to flatten a good section of my backyard (will make for nicer soccer and football games in the future ). It's not a big grading change, just flattening a couple abrupt hills a few feet high. I should've snapped some pics beforehand but I asked one friend and he said it's not that bad. If anyone has any recommendations I'm all ears. FYI, it's only about $400 to rent one for a day with pickup and delivery. I'm sure a landscaper would charge at least double that, although I still need to call and get a cpl quotes.

If your question is have I operated a skid steer before, the answer is yes. But I am not an expert on them. IIRC, they are not that hard to use. Just be careful where your utilities are located and dig away. I think the idea is you have two levers for propulsion, one in each hand--pushing forward together makes you go forward, pulling back makes you go back. Pushing one forward with the other in the neutral (middle) position, makes the vehicle turn slowly, pushing one forward and the other one back makes the vehicle turn abruptly. The pedals control your bucket. Same idea, it is the 3 way switch with neutral in the middle, resting phase.

Hope that helps.
