What is it going to do? Turn back into a dinosaur?

I guess the additives might settle out of it eventually but not in our lifetime.

I think I just learned a valuable lesson: don't use Google to look for anything that the simple application of a little common sense can answer. I do believe my faith in humanity has been knocked down a notch or two.

It is fine, Dan. Don't worry about it unless the place you had it stored got really, REALLY hot or really, REALLY wet.

One comment my quick search did come up with was to be sure to check the viscosity of the oil before you go using it. That is to say, oil that was produced 40+ years ago may not be suitable for a modern engine.

I'll allow that but I have to admit that I am jealous of anyone who has the space to store motor oil for that long.

Being that young, it would be fine if it had been running around your engine the entire time

It has just been sitting on the floor in my garage. I usually change the oil in the spring, since I don't usually drive 3000 miles per year to necessitate an oil change. Though I didn't get around to it this year, so the oil has been in the car since last april-mayish.

Now that I think about it...

DON'T USE THAT OIL, DAN!!!

You can give it to me and I'll be more than happy to dispose of it "properly" for you.
