Yea I got the flu test one of the times I went to the Dr, that SUCKS. They stick a long q-tip up your nose and spin it for 10 seconds. horrible

Here's a good article. Also, not all flu vaccines are created equal. There are two and three strain vaccines, which I learned from this article and confirmed with a doctor friend.

It is kind of like the useless box except you will have to feed it and clean up its poop instead of changing the batteries.
