I really don't like cutting the grass,
After skipping a year, hired the gardener back this season. F that, for the little bit he charges, it's worth it not to waste my time.
don't take this the wrong way, but that isn't very jewish of you.

I should also point out that most storage system OS's are Linux based. NetApp's in particular. Knowing Linux will make you a far better Data Storage tech.
I agree with everything said. RedHat seems to be very big in the govie world right now (which, as Jeff said, is the foundation of most of the storage appliances and not too hard to learn) and NetApps are big everywhere and are a specialized skill. The other thing I would add to the NetApp (SAN/NAS) skillset is knowledge of switches and fiber switches specifically. To add to that, I believe you already have in-depth knowledge of AD and AD replication, as well as SQL, Exchange, Sharepoint which are all huge. Also said was VMware, that's a no brainer, most everything is running on a virtualized environment now. Citrix is good to know too, but as a secondary skill.
While I don't believe in having certs to prove you have experience, it is one of the few things that can get you a foot in the door (and a bump in salary) at a lot of places.
Fibre Channel is on its way out in the SAN/NAS world. You can't buy FC shelves anymore and replacement drives are going to get hard to find in the near future. That isn't to say we won't still use FC to communicate between appliances but with 10gigE getting better I can see this going the way of the Dodo, too.

Hiring a gardener is Jewish? Or skipping the year?

You wouldn't give me a birthday hug yesterday, so I hate you too.

no, hiring a gardner isn't jewish. following the stereotype, this is not saving money, this is wasting it on laziness.

You know what the world needs? An iphone app for a rotary dial instead of a keypad.
