The only thing with DLP is 1 out of 100 guys will see the rainbow projected on the screen.
I don't know Skip - I think 1080i will look pretty damn good for a pretty damn long time! I was pretty sure I've seen DIYs on avsforums.net about replacing it yourself, but it's been a while since I researched/bought the TV. I liked the idea that it was only a few hundred dollars for a bulb. I was also concerned about burn-in, which DLPs don't have. But if you want to hang the thing, I think plasma's still the only game in town.
I have experienced some startup problems in cold weather - sometimes it seems to not want to turn on when it's very cold, when it's around 10-20F outside. Trying it again in about 30 minutes always has worked so far.

could have bought a DLP, but didn't like that and I'm not a big fan of Samsung. I ended up getting a Grand Wega (lcd rear projection) The only issue with the rear projection lcd's is that it doesn't display a true black.

Are you talking about your TV? Where the hell is it the garage?
No, but it's right up against the wall - can feel the coldness through it when it's that cold out. I also try and minimize the heat in the winter due to the soaring gas bills. Thinking of buying space heaters this year since they say gas is going to climb so high this winter.
