Thanks, Tom. I thought I had narrowed my search down to the Panasonic commercial 50" display. It doesn't have speakers nor a HD receiver built in. I don't necessarily need those items as i have a decent surround system and satellite. The built-in HD receivers are only good for those with cable.

The problem: no one knows when the next shipment of those will be coming into the US. So then I expanded my price range a little bit. Then the Pioneer I was considering is in short supply as well. I can't afford the Elite series, but really enjoyed my previous Pioneer HDtv.

I cringed at the money spent on the last one, but we never had a single problem with it. I've researched quite a few companies' products. I'm not going to settle as the sticker shock will have long faded before the tv is replaced again. I can't afford exactly what I would like, but that's nothing new!
Pioneer Elite My favorite. Best Buy in Timonium now sells high end equipment (Pioneer Elite and Def Tech!), that combined with 2 year no interest = $10,000 tv / 24 month payments

Funny thing about PS3 is the launch date... UNKNOWN.

Usually the Asian market(which does not include Naveed ) gets it first and then about six months later we do. That would have the launch just before Christmas '06. Amazing how that works, huh?

And yes, there is absolutely no sense to getting a PS3 or Xbox360 unless you have a high def tv or at a very minimum, an EDTV. And not just any hdtv... one that has dvi(hdcp capable) or hdmi connections. Component connections will do, but they are not "lossless."
They are actually trying to do a worldwide release at the same time with the PS3...

As of now the tentative release date is ~Spring (April) 2006...

And you can get either system if you dont have an HDTV or whatever...you just won't be able to make use of the high end graphics and visuals in games...

But what's the point in getting the systems for the better graphics. Might as well stay with the xbox and ps2

thinking about getting xbox360 once they get back into stock and are readily available... but component vid is the only way I'll be able to use it (my monitor only has 1 dvi port.)
i wouldn't get one.... haven't you heard??

there's been numerous 360 systems crashing during game play giving an error.... there's also issues with rebooting the system where it ends up not rebooting when you try to restart it...also overheating problems....

and there's only going to be more and more issues with the 360... they jumped the gun trying to beat out PS3 when they saw the specs on it... and they screwed up bringing the system out prematurely...

There has only been a little over 12% that has had that problem and those issues you talk about all stem from the same issue. Don't forget that there were issues with the PS2 when it first came out also.
