Yup. It isn't all sunshine and roses here, either. There are circumstances where my employer could have me put in extra hours if, say, a particular deliverable is due. I'd record those hours but I wouldn't get OT for it. The best they will do is comp me some time or cut me lose an hour early for a certain number of days. Something like that. I've heard stories of projects where people are working 10-12 hour days for months but not getting any compensation for it. You can only comp so much time, right? I am definitely not on a contract like that now, though. Hard to imagine anything like that here...

I work for a software company, formerly a start up. I'm exempt so I get a yearly salary. I will say this gig, at the end of the way, is SO much better than working set, hourly hours. Yes there are some nights that I work until 11pm, 12am, 2am...or days where I start at 6am. But the flexibility is unreal and almost invaluable. Working from home doesn't matter if you get paid shit so you can't afford a home for example. But a competitive salary along with an awesome corporate culture to go along the flexibility of working remote/in the office/at the beach/the nearest starbucks is really a rare find in RVA. I wish it were the norm for everyone.
In my humble opinion, flexibility is something that plays a huge role in making employees want to stay with their employers.

In February, I had a Monday where I went to the Venetian, had breakfast, spend a few hours watching some interesting presentations on the future of the industry I'm involved in, after that I went to a bar that was completely open, then a beautiful steak dinner, followed by an evening of dancing and music at Hakkasen, one of the best clubs in Vegas. All of this - part of the work day.

corporate greed, the same reason why we're open on Saturdays... for 3 hours - meanwhile the average employee gets 10.00 an hour & has 2 hours on the road for a commute... yeah that's reasonable.
