Just bought a 50" 4k tv for $330.

And a 55" 1080 for $300.

Sitting 10+ft away the 55" will probably be the keeper.

I am refusing to upgrade to anything beyond 1080p until better sources start to hit the market. What passes for HD now is more than enough for me and, like you said, unless you are sitting on top of 4k TV, you can't tell the difference.
