I was thinking about this for our trip in... Should we go through Gatlinburg or do we just wait if we get caught in a closure? I can see pluses and minuses to each - Gatlinburg is longer and we won't go through Alcoa (and past the Walmart) but it is a different ride. Waiting will suck but we know how long the closures last and we know that route better (no getting lost).
I dunno... Thoughts?

You are totally right. I did not realize they are scheduled to be done with the work so early in the day. Since we won't be there until a good bit after 3 pm, the work won't be an issue for the drive in at all.
