For starters, eBay. Secondly, the eBay offer is twice the price of the other online retailers for the same part. Thirdly, this new flight controller I found is actually a way better option. I've read that the OrangeRX is actually "translates" the protocol native to the radio into DSMX. That translation results in lag. Granted, most users don't complain about it so I don't think it is a real issue but still... Having a flight controller that works without a translator is a better option. PLUS... The OrangeRX box sticks out off the back of the radio rather inelegantly. That kind bothered me even after making up my mind that this is what I wanted.

I appreciate the effort but no.

Flaw in your theory about online retailers being half the price. They don't have any, so their price point is inconsequential. I will sell you my brand new one for $1, but I don't have any in stock. See my point? Supply and demand. Put on your big boy pants and buy the part from eBay.

Jeff lacks big boy pants. He has to buy HUSKY.

So you have a brand new controller, but you didn't buy the part you needed, so you need to buy a brand new controller? Which costs... over $60? I am guessing your controller is a few hundred? Will you be able to recover the cost of the other brand new controller? If you hold it until you buy a "non-starter" quad-copter who's to say that that controller will work with the new quad also?
I did not know what kind of quad I was going to get when I was picking out my radio/controller. I read reviews and watched a lot of videos to see what was the most popular. That was how I landed on the FrSky Taranis X9D. Yes. It was about $200. I downloaded some free simulation software and have been messing with that. I found it to be REALLY hard so instead of getting a fancy-pants racing quad, I decided to jump in and get a micro quad. There is a very popular setup out there with TONS of community support called a Tiny Whoop. That is what I decided to get. It is a perfect trainer in every regard EXCEPT it only speaks DSMX. This should have been okay because I can get my Taranis to speak DSMX with the aforementioned translator (for $30 if available).
I do not need to junk the Taranis nor do I need to junk the quad. That is to say, I do not need to junk the frame, motors, and props. Just the flight controller. Yes, I spent $50 on the quad and yes I am about to spend another $50 on the new flight controller but I would have either spent $60 on the eBay OrangeRX or $30 on the GetFPV OrangeRX so I am really only out something like.... what? $20? Depending on whatever it is that is necessary to get the OrangeRX.
I am NOT junking a $200 radio for a $60 flight controller. I should also point out that the reason I got the Taranis is because it is flexible due to its modular design. It is unlikely that it will be obsolete for a while.
Does that make better sense?
