Her not going this weekend could be perceived (and most likely would be) as going against that very powerful force in their lives.

I really do not think I have a choice here besides sitting at home and worrying or braving the weather with her.
This definitely makes sense. Those extra bits of info makes all the difference. So yes, argument averted.
