Oh, hey! I didn't know IE was still there.

The IE icon I had in my task bar got replaced with the Edge icon. I assumed that the software had as well. TIL...

I used a big discount coupon around black friday to pick up a couple of Ubiquity APs cheap on Jet.com replaced my R7000 with the regular FIOS quantum router I picked up cheap from eBay to get out of some BS charge from FIOS for having an old FIOS router. I wasn't even using the Fios router as anything but a MOCA bridge but they wanted to hit me with some BS charge. The APs mounted in the house and garage give me great 5ghz coverage everywhere and 2.4 in the woods or at the neighbors house.

The R7000 was running DDWRT so it was not vulnerable as far as I know, I think that is only stock firmware.

I did some work on it and some more research this weekend. I couldn't get the web interface fix mentioned in the article to work but I did find a patch. I also put my thermostat (my only IoT device) on my guest network instead of my main network just in case it gets hacked and followed the password recommendations. Still, not feeling the warm and fuzzy on that vulnerability.

I also looked at DDWRT flashing but did not see where the R7000 was compatible. I did that to an older Netgear 10/100 router I had and was reasonably happy with it. It worked well but I never figured out how to use about 95% of its features. I'll have to look at that again... If I can reflash it with DDWRT, job, done!
