My router is old as crap. I bought it when we first got set up with FIOS. You could purchase or rent the router, so I purchased. Now its old. Need to get a new one. We are paying for 150/150 but usually are getting about 50/50. I suspect the router is the culprit.

Anybody using the Google Wifi routers?
I currently have a NetGear Nighthawk R7000 that I am very happy with but I recently found out about a really bad NetGear vulnerability that is scaring me. Netgear Router: Critical Unfixed Vulnerability Permits Hacker Takeover Fortune.com Besides the vulnerability, the R7000 is also kind of weak on my deck and in the garage. I could fix this with some range extenders but the Google kit come with three nodes that you can spread around for optimal coverage. If I am replacing the router why not go with a solution that solves both of my problems? On the downside, the Google kit is expensive (about $300 on Amazon) so I am very reluctant to just jump in.
Any of you folks using it? Thoughts?

My service is at 200 mbps down but my old modem topped out with a 100 mbps uplink to my router. My new modem has a 1000 mbps uplink and is compatible with gigabit Internet (if Comcast is ever able to offer it in my area). It can handle the 200 mbps service without breaking a sweat and it shows. I am genuinely surprised at how much faster it is - the increase isn't just academic. Everything responds faster.
