Thinking about St. Louis
I've been thinking about applying for a few jobs in St. Louis. I've noticed that the cost of living is slightly less than where I'm at, Grand Rapids, MI, but what's it like down there? How is the job market, especially for Engineers?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I dont know about engineering job market. But the town isnt bad at all, I love downtown, its full of clubs, bars and restaurants. We also have Clayton area which has some very nice upscale restaurants. Many shopping malls and businesses, can't go wrong with the STL. Not to mention you can buy a shirt that states how your brave enough to live in Americas most dangerous city.

What kind of Engineering? I mean, it's only got a $30 Billion per year revune Boeing Integrated Defense Systems here. Does that count?
As for Most Dangereous City, stay out of North St. Louis and you'll be fine. Let's just say that statistic is a little more than slightly misleading

I didn't realize Boeing had a large facility in St. Louis. I'm currently working on the CCS computer system for Boeing's 787. So, I might have to look into that one.
Boeing is one of the largest employers in the area. There are a few of us on this site that work there. I do believe there are also a lot of other supporting or supplier companies in the area because of Beoing too, so I definetly think it's a good place for an Engineer with aerospace related experience.

One thing is for sure, the S2000 group in St. Louis has a family atmosphere that is great. They are more than willing to take people in and make them a part of their group.
Good luck finding a career opportunity in the area.

CCS is the computer system for the 787. I'm new to the industry, but from what I understand it's the first time this type of system has been implemented on a commercial aircraft. It's goal is to minimize the peripheral electronics needed by leaving most of the processing to the core computers.
Enough about work...
And, thanks FearlessFife for the love....not much love in Grand Rapids.
