So M2005 and M2000 helmets should be legal as well as the SA rated ones.

Most track schools/groups require a SA helmet and even offer loaners. SA00 are still good.
You can try www.saferacer.com... they aren't too bad either and they are located in Missouri.
Just remember, if you have a $50 head, get a $50 helmet.

so since im new do you guys reccommend i that i stay away from this event do u know of any events that would be good for a begginer?
Given that the S2000 is a convertible, most schools/groups require additional rollover protection (i.e. aftermarket rollbar)... The few schools/groups that don't requirement in the local area are MVP, Redline Time Attack and SCCA. I would definitely consider the SCCA. They are on their 4th PDX day at GIR and are getting to be pretty well organized.

MVP had a beginner group and provided instructors. It is probably pretty friendly to newbies, but I couldn't say for sure.

I say go for it. In fact, I did 2 DE's at Gateway in my old car (VR4) before I went to a proper racing school. That car was alot more forgiving than the S2000, that is, it was prone to understeer at the limit and had AWD. The S2000 is gonna be more nuetral, but will "talk" to you alot more as you find you r way around the track for the first time. Listen to your instructor, do what he tells you to do even if you dont think its right, ride with him in his car for a session or 2, and you will be on your way.
